Headstand (Sirasana) is considered the inversion of The Mountain Pose (Tadasana). Headstand calms the brain and heart, improves circulation and mental clarity, lengthens the spine in conscious reciprocal traction, improves balance, and strengthens the muscles and ligaments of the neck. Because the weight of the abdominal cavity rests upon the diaphragm, repeated engagement with the asana brings new awareness and renewed appreciation of the value of the breath.
Stuart Land offers a special interpretation of this all-important asana - a variation on the classic pose that evokes the spirit of a highly evolved practice. Fully realized potential, it is achievement marked with a sense of freedom from fear expressed with unbridled joy and a sense of improvisation and ‘play’.
